In a person's lifetime, there are bound to be lies told to others- some harmless, some grave. Easily occupying the top slot for the gravest lie committed against an exclusive relationship is infidelity. It owes its rank primarily to the scope of personal devastation it can bring to loved ones and other people who truly matter.
There is the so called financial infidelity where a spouse purposely hides critical money matter decisions from the partner usually to the detriment of the couple's over-all financial standing. Then of course, there is sexual infidelity where a spouse maintains sexual relations with another man or woman aside from the legal partner. Between the two, sexual infidelity tends to be more personal in its attack as can be revealed by the probable underlying reasons behind it.
Cheaters can play with words and say that a one-night stand is not infidelity but merely an adventure to be pursued when available. Confiding intimate marital concerns with a friend of the opposite sex can be termed as seeking friendly support and not as a precursor to more intimacy. Spending considerable time on virtual and online dates can be presented as innocent past time activities.
In fact, a cheater can literally throw the book of excuses on a faithful spouse in an effort to justify what clearly violates trust between married people. They may succeed or they may not. That doesn't alter the truth that there are other options for entertainment, support, and adventure that will not put a person's motive in question. Time is better used in finding these safer options than on useless defense of that lie called infidelity.
